FAQs
Why is Nylon-Fiber used instead of other materials?
Nylon-Fiber is a high-strength synthetic polymer known for its durability, lightweight nature, and resistance to wear, water, and corrosion. While many shower chairs use general plastic or Aluminum which can add weight, the Nylon-Fiber Sidekick offers a more premium, rugged feel without adding unnecessary weight.
What is a splash guard, and do I really need one?
A Splash guard is a bottomless bucket that bridges the gap between the chair and the toilet bowl when using the Sidekick over a toilet. Designed to direct bodily waste into the toilet avoiding messes. Used for Individuals that rely on the chair for toileting, especially when independence or bathroom access is a challenge.
What’s the benefit of adjustable or swing-away footrests?
Footrests add Support, Enhance Comfort and Increases Body Positioning of the user during transport or while seated in the Shower Wheelchair and can play a key role in preventing injury. Adjustable footrests cater to different body types and needs, while swing-away footrests make transfers safer and easier by clearing space for the user's legs. They’re especially important if the user cannot walk or "heel strike" on their own.
Why are flip-back armrests a big deal?
Flip-back armrests allow an individual to make lateral transfers. With the Armrests Flipped Back and using a Transfer Board to laterally transfer provides an easier way to move in or out of the chair from any surface the user is transferring from. Unlike chairs with fixed arms, this feature adds flexibility, safety and reduces the need for awkward lifting. While the arms are not removable in daily use, they can be folded back or taken off entirely when storing or traveling with the chair.
Can I still use this chair independently with or without large rear wheels?
Absolutely. The Sidekick’s large rear wheels are designed for self-propulsion, giving users the freedom to move into showers or bathrooms without assistance. This design is perfect for users who want to stay active and self-reliant while allowing caregivers to easily clear thresholds when helping a user in tighter spaces. For individuals not using the 24” Rear Wheels, The Sidekick Wheelchair can still be used independently with the Footrest Removed allowing the User to Heel Strike.
Do I need the commode bucket if bathroom trips haven’t been a problem?
If bathroom access is manageable, you may not need the bucket at all. However, it’s a helpful backup for nighttime use, limited mobility days, or when a caregiver isn’t available. The commode bucket can be easily removed or added without tools providing peace of mind and added flexibility, turning the Sidekick into a bedside solution when needed.
Why does rust-proof construction matter so much?
In a wet environment like the bathroom, rust is a real issue. Cheaper chairs made from standard metal or plastic may degrade over time. The Sidekick is built from waterproof, rust-proof Nylon-Fiber, ensuring it holds up over the long term. It’s not just a shower chair, it’s an investment in Independence, Safety and Performance.
