The Klaxon Twist Wheelchair Power Assist redefines powered mobility with one compact system that can push from behind, pull from the front, or operate with an optional foldable handlebar. Designed for compatible rigid and folding manual wheelchairs, Twist provides adaptable assistance for tight indoor spaces, longer outdoor trips, hills, and varied terrain.
Unlike power-assist accessories limited to a single mounting position, Twist transitions between rear and front configurations at ground level, eliminating the need to lift the 18.5-pound drive hub during conversion. The patented Linking System Klaxon® supports front and rear attachment and provides an audible latch confirmation when the connection is secured.
Powered by a 700-watt motor and removable 36V, 144Wh lithium-ion battery, Twist delivers a maximum range of up to 12 miles under specified conditions. Standard front- and rear-mounted configurations reach speeds up to 6 mph, while the optional handlebar configuration can reach up to 9 mph after app-based opt-in.
Three Versatile Driving Configurations
Rear-Mounted Push Assist
The compact rear position is ideal for homes, offices, schools, restaurants, public transportation, and other confined environments. Twist pushes the wheelchair from behind while allowing the user to steer, slow, and stop through the handrims.
Front-Mounted Pull Assist
Moving Twist to the front raises the wheelchair’s front casters, increasing ground clearance and creating a smoother ride across appropriate outdoor terrain. This configuration supports longer distances, improved obstacle clearance, motor braking, and controlled downhill travel.
Front Mount with Optional Folding Handlebar
Adding the optional handlebar provides direct steering, a mechanical disc brake, and increased control for longer rides and varied terrain. Standard speed is 6 mph, with an optional 9 mph setting available through the Klaxon app. Reverse speed is limited to 3 mph.
Adaptive Drive Control
Twist’s Adaptive Drive Control responds to the way the wheelchair user interacts with the handrims. Set the desired speed, and the motor supplies power to maintain that pace. When resistance is applied at the rims to steer, slow, or stop, Twist reduces motor output. As the resistance is released, the system gradually accelerates back toward the selected speed.
Acceleration, top speed, braking response, and motor sensitivity can be programmed to match the user’s abilities, preferences, and environment. Twist can also be preconfigured before delivery using settings selected during the quotation or ordering process.
Climb and Downhill Assistance
When ascending an incline, Climb Assist Mode supports a more consistent driving experience. Adaptive speed behavior can be re-engaged with a button on the standard Multi-Function Controller.
In the front-mounted configuration, Twist provides controlled downhill assistance and electronic motor braking. Braking capabilities vary by attachment setup, and the optional handlebar adds a mechanical disc brake for direct stopping control.
Foldable Handlebar for Travel and Storage
The optional Klaxon Folding Handlebar attaches without tools and folds in seconds. Its lightweight 5.3-pound design adds steering stability and direct braking control while remaining compact enough for convenient storage in a compatible carry bag.
When the handlebar is not needed, it can be removed and stowed while Twist returns to its rear- or front-mounted configuration.

Versatility That Transforms Your Mobility
Twist switches between rear push-assist and front pull-assist configurations at ground level, eliminating the need to lift the drive unit. The compact rear position delivers controlled, low-speed maneuverability for indoor spaces, while front mounting increases ground clearance and adds consistent downhill speed control with electronic motor braking through the standard Multi-Function Controller.
For greater steering control and longer outdoor trips, attach the optional folding handlebar. It adds a mechanical disc brake and enables speeds up to 9 mph with app opt-in. As an HCPCS E0986 wheelchair power-assist accessory, Twist is designed to reduce the physical effort and shoulder strain associated with manual propulsion.
PRECISION IN TIGHT SPACES
In the rear-mounted position, Twist maintains a compact profile that is well suited for homes, offices, schools, restaurants, and public transportation. Adaptive Drive Control delivers intuitive power assistance by maintaining the user’s selected speed. When resistance is applied to the handrims to steer, slow, or stop, the system automatically reduces motor output. As the resistance decreases, Twist smoothly returns toward the set speed. Acceleration, maximum speed, and motor sensitivity can all be programmed to match the user’s preferences and environment.
FRONT MOUNT VERSATILITY
Twist transitions between rear push-assist and front pull-assist configurations at ground level, eliminating the need to lift the drive unit. In the front-mounted position, it raises the wheelchair’s casters to increase ground clearance and create a smoother, more stable ride across suitable outdoor terrain. For direct steering, longer trips, and added stopping control, equip Twist with the optional folding handlebar and integrated mechanical disc brake.
SPEED CONTROL: UP & DOWN
When traveling uphill, Climb Assist Mode provides smooth, consistent power. Adaptive speed control can be easily reactivated with the press of a button on the Multi-Function Controller.
FOLD, STOW AND GO
Experience greater everyday convenience with Twist’s thoughtfully designed Folding Handlebar. It attaches without tools, folds in seconds, and stores neatly in the included carry bag. Lightweight yet durable, it provides enhanced steering, control, and maneuverability during longer rides and across varied terrain—making it an ideal travel companion wherever you go.
COMPATIBILITY
The universal mounting system supports both front- and rear-mounted configurations and is compatible with most rigid and folding manual wheelchairs. When Twist is ordered with a Ki Mobility wheelchair, your selected mounting hardware can be pre-installed and the performance settings customized to your specifications.
Mounting hardware for folding wheelchairs can be easily removed when the chair needs to be folded.
EFFORTLESS AND RELIABLE CONNECTION
Twist connects to compatible rigid and folding manual wheelchairs using the patented Klaxon® Linking System. Its innovative design allows for easy front or rear attachment, while an audible click confirms that the connection is secure and you’re ready to ride.

"I absolutely love my Klaxon Twist! Its versatility is incredible – I can use it in the front or back, and the handlebar setup makes it so easy to adapt to different situations. It’s clear this is a really sweet piece of equipment that truly augments my mobility and independence."
What I love most about Twist is its practical, easy-to-use design. Its multiple configurations give me the confidence to navigate uneven terrain, enjoy longer outings, travel comfortably, and move around the home with ease. Other power-assist products simply don’t offer the same versatility. Twist combines the functionality of several mobility products into one compact unit—and takes up far less space in the garage.
