The Littmann® CORE Digital Stethoscope combines Littmann acoustic engineering with advanced digital technology for amplified listening, active noise cancellation, and connected sound visualization. Designed for clinicians who want greater flexibility during auscultation, it can quickly switch between traditional analog listening and digitally amplified sound.
Digital mode provides up to 40 times amplification at peak frequency compared with analog mode, helping clinicians hear subtle sounds in demanding care environments. Active noise cancellation reduces distracting background noise so the user can focus more clearly on the patient’s heart, lung, and other body sounds.
The dual-sided stainless steel chestpiece features tunable diaphragms on both sides. By varying the pressure applied to the chestpiece, clinicians can move between lower- and higher-frequency sounds without repeatedly repositioning the instrument.
When connected to compatible Eko software, the CORE Digital Stethoscope can display heart-sound waveforms on a mobile device in real time. Eligible Eko software features may also provide AI-assisted analysis to support the detection of possible heart murmurs. A compatible device, account, subscription, internet access, and regional feature availability may be required.

FAQs
What is the Littmann Master Cardiology Stethoscope?
The Master Cardiology is a premium mechanical stethoscope designed for clinicians who require exceptional acoustic sensitivity during advanced patient assessments.
Who commonly uses the Master Cardiology?
It is commonly used by cardiologists, physicians, critical-care nurses, advanced practice clinicians, emergency professionals, and other trained healthcare providers.
Is it a digital stethoscope?
No. The Master Cardiology is a traditional mechanical stethoscope and does not require batteries, charging, software, or a mobile device.
How does its acoustic performance compare with other Littmann models?
Littmann positions the Master Cardiology as offering its highest acoustic sensitivity among mechanical stethoscopes.
What is the chestpiece made from?
The chestpiece is constructed from solid stainless steel for durability and efficient sound transmission.
Is the chestpiece single- or dual-sided?
It has a single-sided chestpiece with a tunable diaphragm.
What is a tunable diaphragm?
A tunable diaphragm allows clinicians to hear different sound frequencies by varying the pressure placed on the chestpiece.
How do I hear lower-frequency sounds?
Use light pressure while maintaining full contact between the diaphragm and the patient’s skin.
How do I hear higher-frequency sounds?
Apply firmer pressure to the chestpiece without lifting or repositioning it.
Does the stethoscope have a traditional open bell?
It does not use a standard dual-sided open bell. The included special-procedures adapter supports low-frequency listening and examinations of smaller areas.
What is the special-procedures adapter?
It is a Littmann accessory that adapts the chestpiece for auscultation of small or difficult-to-access body areas.
Can it be used with pediatric patients?
Yes. The special-procedures adapter helps make the chestpiece suitable for pediatric examinations.
Can it be used with smaller or emaciated patients?
Yes. The adapter provides a smaller contact area that can improve placement on thin patients or difficult anatomical locations.
What is dual-lumen tubing?
Dual-lumen tubing contains two internal sound paths within a single outer tube.
What is the benefit of dual-lumen tubing?
It helps reduce the rubbing noise created when two separate external tubes contact each other.
What are soft-sealing eartips?
Soft-sealing eartips conform to the ears to provide comfort, an effective acoustic seal, and reduced interference from surrounding noise.
Is the Master Cardiology suitable for heart assessments?
Yes. It is designed for detailed cardiac auscultation and can help trained clinicians hear subtle heart sounds and rhythms.
Can it be used for lung sounds?
Yes. It can be used for pulmonary, vascular, abdominal, and other appropriate auscultation assessments.
Is it appropriate for critical care?
Its premium acoustic performance makes it suitable for critical-care, emergency, cardiac, and other demanding clinical environments.
Can it diagnose heart disease?
No. A stethoscope is an assessment tool. Findings must be interpreted alongside the patient’s history, examination, and appropriate diagnostic testing.
How is it different from the Littmann Cardiology IV?
The Master Cardiology has a single-sided chestpiece and Littmann’s highest mechanical acoustic sensitivity. The Cardiology IV uses a dual-sided chestpiece designed for adult and pediatric assessments.
How is it different from the Littmann CORE Digital Stethoscope?
The Master Cardiology is entirely mechanical. The CORE adds digital amplification, active noise cancellation, connectivity, and compatible software features.
Does the Master Cardiology require charging?
No. It contains no powered electronic components.
How should the stethoscope be worn?
Insert the eartips so they point forward, following the natural direction of the ear canals, to create a proper acoustic seal.
Can headset tension be adjusted?
Yes. Adjust the headset according to Littmann’s instructions to achieve a secure but comfortable fit.
Why might sounds be difficult to hear?
Check the eartip direction and seal, diaphragm placement, pressure, tubing condition, and chestpiece components. Environmental noise and examination technique can also affect sound quality.
How should the Master Cardiology be cleaned?
Wipe the chestpiece, tubing, and eartips with a compatible disinfectant following Littmann’s current care instructions.
Can the stethoscope be submerged?
No. Do not immerse it in liquid or allow fluid to enter the tubing.
Can it be sterilized in an autoclave?
No. Autoclaving or other unapproved sterilization methods can damage the tubing, diaphragm, eartips, and finish.
Can the eartips and diaphragm be replaced?
Yes. Compatible Littmann replacement components are available. Verify that each accessory is intended for the Master Cardiology model.
How should the stethoscope be stored?
Keep it in a clean, dry location away from extreme temperatures, solvents, oils, and prolonged direct sunlight. Avoid folding the tubing sharply.
Is it suitable for medical students?
It may be a strong long-term option for students who want premium acoustic performance, although school requirements and budget should be considered.
What colors and tubing lengths are available?
Options can vary by model number and current manufacturer offerings. Verify the exact color, finish, and length before ordering.
What warranty does it include?
Warranty coverage may vary by model and region. Confirm the current Littmann warranty period and terms for the selected product.
What should be confirmed before purchasing?
Verify the model number, color, tubing length, included adapter, replacement-part compatibility, warranty, and seller authorization.
